AMVETS Member
To be eligible for membership in AMVETS, you must have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves, anytime after Sept. 15, 1940. Additionally, unless still serving, your discharge must have been under honorable conditions. If you served as an American citizen in the armed forces of an allied nation, under honorable conditions, between Sept. 15, 1940 and May 8, 1975, you are also eligible, as are wartime members of the Merchant Marine. Proof of eligibility can take the form of a DD-214, an honorable discharge certificate or other appropriate document. Eligibility for the Sons of AMVETS includes the sons, grandsons, adopted sons, stepsons, fathers, grandfathers, husbands and brothers of members of AMVETS and deceased members of AMVETS, or service personnel who died but would have been eligible for membership in AMVETS. Prospective members must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and not eligible for membership in AMVETS. This does not include in-laws of any type.

Membership in AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary is open to the mothers, wives, widows, grandmothers, sisters, daughters and granddaughters of AMVETS and female veterans who are currently serving or who have honorably served in the Armed Forces of the United States, including the National Guard and Reserve components, anytime after September 15, 1940
